Zacatan Ecological Reserve: a 30-acre swath of regenerating tropical dry forest in Gigante. Established in 2000 and managed by Dr. Rob Dull. Come catch a glimse of a spectacular blue morpho butterfly, a green iguana, or a howler monkey. Just over a mile from Hotel Brio. Hiking trails and wet season waterfall/soaking pool. |

Paso Pacifico: This non-profit organization is dedicated to conservation issues in the tropical dry forests of Pacific Nicaragua. Dr. Sarah Otterstrom heads up this organization and does a fabulous job of it! Conservation and responsible/green development go hand in hand, and Paso Pacifico is leading the charge by providing a plan for conservation and environmental stewardship in SW Nicaragua. Donations are encouraged. |
