Ecotourism opportunities in/near Gigante:

Walking

· Walk: Zacatan Eco-Reserve (20-30 minute walk from hotel): tropical dry forest under regeneration. See Howler monkeys, iguanas, many species of butterflies and tropical birds, etc.

· Amarillo Beach (20 minute walk from hotel):coastal/estuarine ecosystem and sea turtle nesting.

Driving

· Chacocente Park  (45 minute drive): sea turtles, large swath of tropical dry forest, riparian ecosystem.

Boating

· Isla La Vieja (or (“La Anciana”): sea bird rookery — gulls, frigate birds, pelicans

· We don’t offer official whale watching, but we aim to add this to the agenda soon.  Chance sightings can occur on boat trips, and whales can even sometimes be seen from Gigante Beach!
